Must-haves for Life with a New Baby

Well, Will is almost 3 months 😭😭😭 he’s growing so fast! He’s a quarter of a year old! So in honor of that, I figured it would be a great time to round up all the items we couldn’t have lived without so far!

If you’re expecting, I hope this helps you out!

1. This CRADLE was an absolute lifesaver! It rocks by itself, and for the first few weeks, it was the only thing Will would sleep in. From the get go he slept great at night, and it was because of this! Every new baby needs to sleep in one of these.

2. A HAAKAA BREAST PUMP is a total necessity. Regular pumps are great, but there are so many little pieces, and so much set up, etc, it’s just a hassle. HaaKaa’s are great cuz you just suction it to your boob and it collects the milk! I tried comparing, and on me personally it worked just as well as the automatic pump! My favorite way to use this is when you’re nursing on one side, stick this on the other side and it catches your letdown and you’ll be able to save a few ounces that otherwise would have ended up in your breast pad!

3. This FLUFFY BLANKET is amazing! We actually have two of them. It’s a must to have all kinds of baby blankets everywhere, but these are especially fluffy and soft and wonderful (I wish it came in a full sized version!) When we can’t get Will to fall asleep, we wrap him up in this blanket and he’s so warm and snug it works almost every time!

4. Lots of SLEEPERS are a necessity! We were surprised at how difficult it was to dress a tiny baby. #firsttimeparentproblems He lived his first several months mostly in sleepers cuz it’s just so convenient and you’re not afraid you’re gonna break their tiny arms trying to stuff them in the outfit! We had a lot of little shirts and pants that only got used once or twice for special occasions. Next time around I’m going to stick to finding adorable sleepers and save the cute ‘mini adult’ clothes for like 6 months and up.

5. I included the HALO SLEEPSACK in my post Gift Guide for the New Mom and her Baby, but it’s such a necessity it deserves getting a second mention! When they’re little they have no control over their arms, so you can’t put them to bed with a blanket. We got pretty good at swaddling, but we found using a sleepsack (doesn’t have to be Halo brand, we have others we love as well) to be easier because when you feed them during the night the sleepsack is going to stay in place, where we would always have to redo the swaddle and it would often wake up the baby (never a good thing during the night!) Grab a few cuz they get barfed on a lot…

6. The DIAPER GENIE is a must have for all stages of baby! It’s a trash bin that contains the scent! And it works great! It comes with one pack of REFILLS, and just for reference, one refill lasts about 3 weeks. Obviously as they get older though, the diapers get a little bigger and they go more often so they won’t last as long.
